Through the grant, HFF is establishing a Casa Herbalife program at Koinonia Homes by providing financial resources and volunteer support in the area of healthy nutrition programs.
Koinonia Homes for Teens provides foster care, adoption and family service programs available for children and their families. Each year, the organization assists approximately 60 participants through its Group Home program, which have been placed from several Northern California counties.
The initial Casa Herbalife grant will support Koinonia Homes for Teens' goal to establish a formal nutrition, meal planning and preparation instructional program. The main components of the nutrition education program include learning to shop for healthy foods, menu preparation, nutritional instruction, cooking and physical education. Funds will also assist in renovating the group home kitchen.
"Koinonia Homes for Teens is committed to providing a full-scope of Independent Living Skills which includes health, nutrition, and cooking skills. The gift from the Herbalife Family Foundation allows us to take this education beyond textbooks by building a teaching kitchen where we can guide the teens in planning the menu, purchasing the ingredients, and preparing the meal. We are very excited and grateful for this opportunity to offer our young people this important skill that they will possess for a lifetime," concluded Bill Ryland, executive director, Koinonia Homes for Teens.
This program marks the 64th Casa Herbalife program in the world; the sixth in the United States. After an initial grant from HFF, local Herbalife independent distributors and employees support the Casa Herbalife programs through volunteerism and fundraising.
HFF is a 501(c)(3), non-profit corporation dedicated to improving children's lives by helping organizations provide healthy nutrition to children at risk. Additionally, HFF often supports relief efforts in response to natural disasters.
