LOS ANGELES--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Today, Herbalife (NYSE: HLF), a leading global nutrition company, announced that the company is partnering with the Asian Pacific American Institute for Congressional Studies (APAICS) to support a congressional fellowship in Washington, D.C. As part of the program, Herbalife will sponsor Alyssa Wang, a recent graduate of the University of Florida who will spend nine months in Washington D.C. getting invaluable experience working in the U.S. Congress.
“Herbalife is pleased to sponsor APAICS public policy fellowship program,” said Angela Arboleda, Herbalife Vice President of Government and Community Affairs. “Empowerment is a central focus for Herbalife and we are excited to partner with APAICS to provide these students with strong leadership skills that we hope will inspire them to pursue careers in public service. We look forward to working with APAICS over the coming years to support their important work in the Asian Pacific American and Pacific Islander community.”
The full-time legislative and public policy fellowship program offers exceptional graduates and young professionals with an opportunity to give back to their communities by working on policy issues in a congressional office. The fellowship program aims to build leadership skills, foster a strong interest in public service and encourage civic engagement.
The APAICS Herbalife fellow, Alyssa Wang, is a Florida native who graduated from the University of Florida in May with a Masters in Public Health. During her time in Washington, D.C., Alyssa will be working on health policy in the office of U.S. Senator Mazie Hirono from Hawaii. Alyssa brings a wealth of experience in the health industry as a leader of the Tobacco Free Alachua, developing policies to reduce the effects of tobacco in her community, through her work with North Florida Department of Veterans Affairs and as a leader in various health programs at her university.
“We are dedicated to growing and shaping the next generation of leaders in the Asian Pacific American community,” said Floyd Mori, President and CEO, Asian Pacific American Institute for Congressional Studies. “We are pleased to partner with Herbalife to give our young leaders the opportunity to get hands on experience and training in the Nation’s capital.”
The fellowship program is an expansion of the partnership between Herbalife and APAICS. Earlier this year, Herbalife supported the APAICS Regional Leadership Academy and Policy Summit in Manoa, Hawaii. The Academy and Policy Summit was held on March 14-15 and included a boot camp led by Christine Pelosi designed for elected officials, community leaders, and aspiring students in the Asian community. The Summit included a conversation on leadership with Representative Colleen Hanabusa (D-HI) and featured a roundtable on health and education.
