Nutrition Company Joins Charity in Celebrating Father’s Day at Griffith Park
LOS ANGELES--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Global nutrition company Herbalife (NYSE: HLF) employees volunteered and hosted Union Rescue Mission’s (URM) first Father’s Day Picnic and Barbecue at Griffith Park on June 27, 2015.
As part of the company’s ongoing support of URM’s social and educational program activities, Herbalife employees collected and donated gift items that ranged from socks and deodorant to shaving cream and other grooming toiletries for over 100 men participating in URM’s Christian Life Discipleship Program (CLDP), an intense, in-depth, year-long plan designed to help men understand the root causes of their homelessness and why their lives aren’t working — and then to rebuild their lives on a solid biblical foundation and lasting solutions.
Twenty Herbalife employee volunteers hosted the catered lunch for 200 participants and their families, as well as URM staff. Some of the activities for the men and their children included clown entertainment, magic tricks, face painting and animal balloons for children, as well as hot dogs, hamburgers and other complimentary refreshments.
“At Herbalife we take great pride in partnering with URM and supporting their various social and community building activities. Herbalife employee involvement at these activities is second to none. Our volunteers understand that giving back to the community is not just one of Herbalife’s core values, but also part of the cultural fabric that makes the company a good corporate citizen in the city of Los Angeles, as well as around the world in the many countries where it operates,” said Diahanna Brown, Herbalife’s vice president of worldwide events.
Herbalife has been a proud partner and supporter of URM for six years and provides daily healthy shakes to 500 low income and homeless program participants in downtown Los Angeles. The company and its employee volunteers have had a staple presence in various annual fundraising and special events hosted by the charity, including Hearts of Hope Annual Gala, The Annual Spring Golf Classic, the Mother’s Day Luncheon at Hope Gardens, and its Thanksgiving Luncheon.
“Thanks to Herbalife and other partners for providing a Father's Day Picnic filled with recovering, hopeful URM dads connecting with their children for the day, and restored grads of URM reuniting with their families and children,” concluded Reverend Andy Bales, Union Rescue Mission's chief executive officer.
